William "Bill" McConnell

William “Bill” McConnell, 67, of Barling, died Saturday, December 14, 2013 in his home. He was retired from Rheem after thirty-six years. Bill was one of the best crappie fishermen around, and could even out fish his brothers and sisters. He taught many of his family to crappie fish.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; one step-daughter, Crissy Carlile of Fort Smith; one step-son, Mark Jones and wife, Lori of Muldrow three daughters, Sharon Richmond and husband, Davis of Rogers, Christy Helms and husband Johnny of Greenwood, and Cory Boydster and husband, Thomas of Greenwood; four sisters, Reba Carter of Denton, Texas, Pauline “Polly” Martin of Mansfield, Marion Dunn and husband, Jimmy of Hartford, and Linda Clark and husband, Raymond of Fort Smith; four brothers, J.B. McConnell and wife, Ruby of Oakdale, California, Fred McConnell and companion, Carrie of Huntington, Mike McConnell and wife, Helen of Huntington, and Rodney McConnell of Mansfield; sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, many, many friends, and constant companion, “Andy”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Myrtle McConnell; his wife, Connie McConnell; two brothers, Wilfred and Ernie McConnell; two brothers-in-law, Bill Carter and Tiny Martin, and one great-grandson, Chevy Thomas.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 17 at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood, with burial at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore, Oklahoma. Viewing will be 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Mike Metcalf, Shawn Carter, Eddy Carter, Scott Carter, Austin Harvey, and Mark Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Shon Traylor and Bill Lawson.
