

William A. “Al” Smith, 92, of the Clark’s Chapel Community passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a retired government contractor and farmer and was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II, a member of the American Legion and DAV, and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Witcherville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wanda Taylor Smith, a son Alvin Ray Smith, sisters Dorothy Nichols Phillips and Inis Taylor, and brothers Elmer Lee Smith, Therman “Dutch” Smith, and Alford Smith.
Survivors include a son, Owen Smith and wife, Delena, of Witcherville, AR; two daughters, Patt Conaway and husband, Jim, of Greenwood and Lois Witt and husband, Isaac, of Fort Smith, AR; two sisters, Margaret Cook and Myrle Dean Kerr, both of Fort Smith; two brothers, Jim Smith of Mansfield and Marion Smith of Fayetteville, AR; six grandchildren Ryan Smith, Andrea Jansen, Jeff Conaway, Allison McBride, Lora Lea Witt and Jeanne Witt; five great grandchildren, Cole Marie Smith, Abby Lynne Smith, Carson McBride, Carter McBride and Heather Haley.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Witcherville with burial at Union Ridge Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Monday from 1 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 - 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be his nephews.
