

Alan Robert Stoebig was born on October 24, 1942 and passed away on November 26, 2023. He was 81 years old. Alan was born in Corvallis, Oregon to Ruth and Robert Stoebig. While he spent his younger years in Eugene, Oregon, he also grew up in Gleneden Beach, Oregon where he surf fished and enjoyed all the activities the Oregon coast had to offer. He graduated from Taft High School in 1960 and Oregon State College in 1964, receiving a B.S. in Mathematics. Alan served in the Army from 1964 to 1967 where he received the National Defense Service Medal. Alan continued his educational pursuits after his military service at Oregon State College where he obtained a M.S. in Mathematics. Alan was employed by the Oregon State Employment Division as an Economist until retirement in the late 1990s. Alan was a gifted scholar. He was an avid reader, enjoyed classical music, loved his cats and took walks.
He is survived by one sister, Linda Eden; two brothers, Bill and Jerry (Cindy) Stoebig; and two nephews, Chris and David Eden. His parents and sister, Carol preceded him in death. Alan was a kind person and everyone marveled at his ability to provide extensive details on any topic you would ask him about.
A committal service with military honors for Alan will be held Monday, December 11, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, OR 97086. Alan requested that his service be simple with no flowers. As per his request, his beloved cats were surrendered to Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood, Oregon where they will be rehomed and will accept donations in his memory.
