Her father died when she was six years old and her mother married his brother when she was 12 who was a loving father to her.
She grew up in Gresham and graduated from Gresham High School in 1950. Lael Hays of Gresham, Or was her beloved & lifelong best friend.
She married the love of her life, Ken in 1950 who preceded her in death in 2018.
Her deep love and caring for others motivated her to become a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the first graduating class at Mt, Hood College in 1968.. She worked as a nurse at Gresham Hospital and Providence Hospital.
She loved the Lord and her faith was an integral part of her life from the time that she was a little girl.
She was active at different times in her life at Zion United Church of Christ, Powell Valley Covenant Church & Grace Community Church. She maintained close friendships with members at all three churches . She enjoyed ministering to others as a a Bible Study Fellowship leader.
She was a proud member of TOPS for many years and enjoyed her friends there.
She & Ken loved to travel and enjoyed entertaining friends from other cultures. Saleh who was an exchange student from Malaysia who lived in their home and became a cherished son. They enjoyed visits with his family.
In their later years, they enjoyed being part of a Senior Exchange group with Costa Ricans.
Alma Lou is survived by her children, D'Anne & Rick Hanan, Sun City, AZ, Rick & Nancy Tischler, Gresham, OR, Michelle & Mike Piazza, Boring Or, Salehuddin bin Hashim, KL, Malaysia.
She is also survived by her beloved brother, Wilbur Welty & his wife, Millie ( who was a special sister to her) of Oregon City,Or. She also leaves behind step-sister, Loretta Braun, Vancouver, WA.
She has been a devoted grandma to eight grandchildren and leaves behind six great grandchildren.
Due to Covid 19, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Grace Community Church in Gresham, Or.
