Alma Lee Whalen, 79, died July 11, 2026 in Portland, Oregon. Born December 12, 1946 in Walla Walla, Washington to John Raymond Tinsley & Lilly Sonia (Shere) Tinsley, she was the eldest of two daughters.
Alma was raised in John Day and after graduation, class of 1965 Grant Union High School, she attended Southern Oregon College in Ashland and Portland Community College where she received an Associate Degree in Nursing. her moved to Portland in 1968, later making her home in the NE Portland area of Oregon. Throughout her life, Alma carried herself with a steady sense of purpose, and her strong work ethic showed in the care she gave to others and the responsibilities she faithfully shouldered over the years.
Alma devoted more than 30 years of service to OHSU as a Dialysis Nurse, a role that reflected her commitment to doing important work with consistency and dedication. Those who knew Alma will remember a woman who met each day with determination and quiet strength, offering her time and energy in ways that made a lasting difference.
She enjoyed for many years golfing as a member of Columbia Edgewater Country Club, hosting LPGA gatherings at her home.
She was married to Victor Anthony Whalen for many years until his passing in 2013.
Alma is survived by her daughters; Angela Hodson (Shawn) & Jennifer Walker (Chris), grandchildren; Jordon Hodson, Hailey Walker, Taylor Hodson, Sadie Walker, Sister; Sheree Walters (Sumner), nephew; Sean Walters and Alma’s beloved dog Bentley. Alma's beloved dog Isabella proceeded her in death.
