Barbara Jean Parker passed away quietly in her sleep due to heart failure on August 14, 2025 while under the care of family and Mt Hood Hospice.
She was 86 years old, born on September 17, 1938 in Butte Montana to Arthur and Harriet Hausken. Her father died when she was 14 years old and she was raised by her mother who never remarried. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane Washington in 1956. She worked for the phone company before meeting and marrying her husband of 56 years, Jerome Parker. They briefly lived in Birmingham Alabama, then moved back to Spokane before settling in Troutdale then Gresham Oregon. After moving back to the west coast, they began their family with three kids, Joel, Beth and Jill. Barbara worked as teaching assistant at East Gresham Grade School and Powell Valley Elementary School from the late 1970’s to the early 1990s as soon as her kids were old enough to look after themselves. After retirement the pair traveled around the US in their motorhome and spent several winters in Casa Grande Arizona.
Barabara loved ice skating in her early years and was an avid bowler later in 1970’s. She also enjoyed attending college women’s basketball with her husband while in Casa Grande and were strong supporters of their granddaughter’s school basketball teams. Her family will certainly miss her creative personalized handmade birthday cards.
Barbara is survived by her three children Joel Parker, Beth Alloway, and Jill Parker. She has four granddaughters, Joanna Washburn, Jacqueline Low, Jeanne Crumpton, Hannah Ramirez and four great grandchildren, Catherine Washburn, Owen Crumpton-Elliot, Isabella Ramirez and Amelia Ramirez. She will also be dearly missed by her lifetime best friend and sister by heart since they were 5 years old, Louise Snyder.
No services are planned at her request.
