She was born in Omaha, Nebraska, September 14, 1924, to Lars Peter and Ruth Norby Jensen. Betty graduated from Omaha Technical High School and married Morgan Pritchett (deceased 1982) in 1944, following him to Oregon, where she would live happily the rest of her life.
Betty earned a B.S. from Portland State University, an M.B.A. from the University of Oregon, and an Ed.D. in Community College Education from Oregon State University. She was a founding faculty member of Mt. Hood Community College, becoming Chairman of the Business Division a year later.
She married Kenneth Light (deceased 2003) in 1985, and retired from MHCC in 1986 as Dean of Communication Arts, Humanities, and Social Science.
Betty was a member of the Gresham City Council from 1983-1986. She was very involved in civic life, both as an individual and in connection with MHCC. She loved her community and family and felt blessed to have two happy marriages to good, kind men.
She is survived by her son, Randall Pritchett of Gresham, daughters Robin Church of Lowell, OR, Royce Bishop of Auburn, WA, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and eleven great grand-children.
A service for Betty will be held at the Bateman-Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell Blvd., in Gresham on June 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the Mt. Hood Community College Foundation, Planned Parenthood, or the Salvation Army.
