Betty was born September 2, 1932 in Roosevelt, Minnesota to Thomas and Mary (Benedix) Gardner. She moved to Oregon in the mid 1950s. She worked in Portland at the Fred Meyer Headquarters. She married William Shade on June 17, 1962.
Betty was and outgoing and friendly woman. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working in the yard and garden. She loved to cook and bake, especially cheesecakes. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Margaret Thran of Boring, OR; son, Michael Shade of Coatesville, IN; sister, Wanda Fuller of MN; brother, Martin Gardner of MN; and four grandchildren.
