

Bounpheng Vixathep, age 81, of Portland, Oregon passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
A funeral service for Bounpheng will be held Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd, Gresham, Oregon.
Bounpheng Vixathep was born on February 6, 1942 in the town of Phibon, Ubon Rathachani in Thailand to Bium Vixathep and Mi. Bounpheng had 8 siblings, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Bounpheng finished his education in Thailand before moving to Laos. It was in Laos where he met Noy Syhaphom whom he married and four children with (Dokoh, Anon, Anop, and Anouxa. Bounpheng moved his family to Thailand after the Laos Civil War. After living in Thailand for four years, the last three to four months of which were spent living in a refugee camp, Bounpheng was blessed with the opportunity to come to the United States of America.
Bounpheng was sponsored to come to the United States by a generous family in Cleveland, Ohio: Everett & Gail Cataldo and their daughters Claudia and Vanessa. After spending 11 months in Cleveland, Ohio Bounpheng discovered that he had family in Portland, Oregon. He decided to move the family once again on a long-distance trek across the United States via Greyhound bus.
Bounpheng would spend the rest of his life as a resident in Oregon working as a painter at Freightliner Truck Manufacturing Company where he retired from in 2002. Bounpheng loved his Northwest outdoor lifestyle. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Surf Perch fishing on the Oregon Coast was one of his favorite activities. What he loved and enjoyed most though was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 4 siblings.
