

Carl Rubin, born May 31st, 1924 in Fairland Oklahoma died October 8th, 2011, at age 87. He was the son of Otto and Elisabeth Rubin. Carl was raised on the farm in Fairland, moving to Oregon after the war in 1947.
Carl joined the U.S. Army in 1943, where he served in the European Theater as a medic during World War II. Carl married his wife Irene (Malskeit) in Portland, Oregon August 19th, 1950. His brother performed the service. They were married for 54 wonderful years, until Irene passed away in May 2005. In that time, they raised four children together. Carl loved roses. He grew them extensively at home, never needing to go out to bring Irene roses. He also enjoyed fishing and camping, as well as his involvement at church. He was always teaching his children, and was a kind and wise man.
Carl began teaching after his service in the military, going on to become the head of the math department at Grant High School. The kids he taught respected and appreciated his teaching style, continuing to stay in contact with him after graduation.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife Irene and three grandchildren. He is loved and missed by his sons: Robert and Karla Rubin, David and Laney Rubin; daughters: Ann White, Kathryn and Gary Rowe; sisters: Elsie Wessel and Ruth Nelson, as well as 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home on Thursday October 13th from 2-5PM. A service in Carl’s remembrance will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Oregon City on Saturday October 15th at 11:00AM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Oregon City Education Fund in Carl’s honor.
