Charles Fredrick Luchsinger Jr. died on May 23, 2015 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 83 shortly after being diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension and Congestive Heart Failure. He was born on November 13, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa to Charles and Addie (Loker) Luchsinger.
Charles graduated from East High School in Sioux City, Iowa and following his graduation he enlisted into the US Air Force. Charles served his country during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at the 68th A&E (SAC) Lake Charles LA Air Force base.
Charles married Amy Vining on November 10, 1952 in Lake Charles Louisiana. Amy preceded him in death in 2012.
Charles was an active member of the Masonic lodge serving the Abu Bekr Shrine, Blue Lodge, S.C. Scottish Rite and S.C. York Rite, Siouxland Freemasons, in Sioux City Iowa. He worked at the Sioux City Journal newspaper for more than 35 years until his retirement in 1995. Charles and Amy relocated to West Lake Louisiana where they enjoyed their retirement years entertaining and traveling. In February of 2015 Charles relocated to Portland Oregon where he could be closer to his family.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed traveling, camping, entertaining and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Amy Mary Luchsinger, son, Milton F. Luchsinger, mother, Addie Luchsinger, father Charles F. Luchsinger, two sisters, Shirley and Mary Jane and son-in-law, Toas Warnstadt.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Linda Gayle Warnstadt, four grandchildren: Jina L. Ellison, Trisha Roelofs, Tami Warnstadt-Hauptman and Tara Tremlett and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon. A later service will be held in Sioux City Iowa.
