Charlotte Ann Gerstenecker Eckart, daughter of Charles Gerstenecker and Frieda Diepholz Gerstenecker, was born on August 31, 1934 at home in Collinsville, IL, and passed away at home on June 20, 2018 at the age of 83.
Charlotte was baptized in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and was a life-long member. After attending public schools in Collinsville, she was employed by the United States Air Force at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Before her marriage, she was an Executive Secretary at the Gardner Advertising Agency in St. Louis, Missouri.
Charlotte was united in marriage to James David Eckart on January 2, 1965, in their childhood church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Collinsville. They lived in Bloomington, IL; Springdale, AR; and The Dalles, OR before moving to Portland in 1974.
Charlotte and James had three children: John David Eckart (Karen), Laura Joan Eckart Bergerson (Chad) and Brian Charles Eckart (Alissa.) She had eight grandchildren: Bethany, Christina, Jacob and Zachary Eckart; Benjamin and Abbie Bergerson; and Jack and Maya Eckart.
Along with being involved in her church, Charlotte was active in PTA for the David Douglas School District and the school baseball programs. She enjoyed camping with her family, entertaining them & celebrating holidays together, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards with Jim. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Harold and Charles, and sisters Frances and Neva.
Surviving to mourn her are her husband Jim; children and grandchildren; sisters Carol and Joan; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 6, 2018 at 1:00pm at Ascension Lutheran Church at 1440 SE 182nd Ave, Gresham, Oregon. An inurnment service with family members at Willamette National Cemetery will be held later.
