Clarice blessed her family, friends, and many acquaintances throughout her life until her passing during the early hours of July 26th, 2022. She passed peacefully in her sleep at the family home in Damascus surrounded by loved ones at her bedside.
Clarice was born January 25th, 1940, in Portland, Oregon to Harold and Sophie Meinig. She was the oldest of two siblings and big sister to several foster children in their home that Harold built during her childhood. Clarice was preceded in death by her parents and younger sister, Christine Cummings, in 2015 and husband of 58 years, David, in 2018.
Clarice attended Gilbert Grade School and graduated from David Douglas High School in 1958 where she was a National Honor Society member who thoroughly loved being involved with choir, music, theater, and volunteering in her local community. Clarice was quite proud and honored to choose the school colors as well as writing the school fight song for her alma mater and sing and perform with The Vagabonds. While attending high school, Clarice's childhood sweetheart, David, returned from Alaska where his father was stationed in the Army. They married soon after graduation in the fall of 1958 and successfully raised four children. She selflessly gave up her passion and career ambitions in music and theater to raise a family. Throughout her entire life Clarice was involved in her community in addition to all her children's activities which were quite numerous. Volunteering for school activities; carnivals for fundraising; being room mom; being team mom for many seasons of Boring Junior Baseball and keeping scorebook; participating in Kelly Cadets and supporting the flag team and marching band; helping form the Barlow BandAid's parent group for Sam Barlow High School; serving as a board member on the Gresham/Barlow High School PTA; attending nearly all her children's sporting events, band recitals and competitions, all the while running and keeping business records in order for DaClair Inc. — the family business in real estate holdings and rentals. Clarice was an extremely hard worker, always sacrificing for others, and was the glue of her family. She was a role model for all who were lucky enough to know her.
Throughout her entire life Clarice enjoyed playing music. She loved her Neil Diamond and made many happy memories playing Christmas carols for the family and loved ones over the holidays. She was an amazingly talented piano player, accordion player, and seamstress to boot. From making wedding gowns to grandchildren's bassinets, she could do it all. She loved her shih tzu Miss Kati, the beach, her Seattle Mariners, her country, and all her patriotic friends. Over her lifetime she donated more than 20 gallons of blood to the Red Cross. If someone needed help, Clarice could be counted on to lend a hand. Her family and adopted family and her wonderful friends of the Republican Women of Oregon where she served as president for 22 years kept Clarice active and busy until the last few weeks of her blessed life of service. Clarice will always be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and generous giver to the community. She will be sorely missed.
Clarice is survived by her three sons; Ron, Randy, and Russ and daughter Cherilyn. She was also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Clarice A. Moss will be held September 10th, 11:00am, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
