Darrold D. Dickson, 94, passed away on July 19, 2025, in Gresham, Oregon. Born in Webb City, Missouri on October 18, 1930, Darrold lived a life of dedication, resilience, and unwavering loyalty to his family.
A proud Air Force veteran, Darrold served his country during a tour in Korea. Upon returning home, he settled into family life with his wife of 75 years, Rosemary, and their four children.
Darrold worked hard every day of his life to provide for his family. His stubbornness served him well as he took a backhoe and a dump truck and made a successful career for himself. He worked tirelessly each day but always knew that Rosemary would have his chopped ham sandwich waiting in his red and white Igloo cooler, when he needed lunch. He valued hard work, not as a means to an end, but as a way of life. When he had a moment of downtime, he enjoyed working on his immaculate truck that became the envy of his grandchildren.
Darrold loved children. His eyes lit up when his grandchildren and great-grandchildren walked into a room. Even when his grandchildren grew up, he still called them his “rascals” and asked about what kind of trouble they were getting in to. He was always the first to get on the floor to play, and he undoubtedly had a piece of candy or a cookie to sneak to them.
Darrold had an ornery sense of humor and liked to tease those he loved. A sly smile would sneak up on his face as he teased Rosemary about being in prison for 75 years (married to her). If you were lucky enough to be on the receiving end of Darrold’s teasing, you knew that he loved you.
Family was at the heart of everything Darrold did. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rosemary; daughters Pamela (Denny), Patricia (Jay), Rebecca (Jeff); and son Dennis (Sherry). He also leaves behind his 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Darrold’s memory will bring comfort to those who knew him and be a lasting reminder of a life well lived through hard work, loyalty, and love.
