With deep love, we announce the passing of David Michael Schuerman. David passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning on May 20, 2026 at the age of 77.
He was born on August 3, 1948, in Cedar Falls, Iowa; the son of the late Laverne and Levetta Schuerman. He grew up alongside his siblings; Ron, Bill, Jim and Sondra. David graduated from Cedar Falls High School and went on to build a dedicated career as a machinist at Viking Pump, John Deere and later retired after 33 years with Boeing.
On July 1, 1972, he married his wife and partner of 53 years, Vicki Tonderum. They started their journey together in Cedar Falls, having 3 beautiful children and later moved to Gresham, Oregon where they established roots. Above all, David loved spending time with family. Whether he was grilling in the backyard, cheering poolside at swim meets, watching his granddaughter play basketball or playing with the dogs; family was his pride and joy. David was known for his generous spirit, quick wit and storytelling (usually exaggerated but always entertaining). He was an avid Packer fan, car and motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed watching just about every sport.
If you knew David, you knew he was a dog’s best friend. He loved his many four-legged family members. From his beloved chocolate lab, Jamaica, to the granddogs; Cedar, Dougy and Ollie; as well as those who passed before him; Timber, Lexi, Nikki, Gucci and Cortez; loving dogs was his most cherished hobby.
David is preceded in death by his parents Laverne and Levetta, along with his father-in-law, Merle Tonderum. He is survived by his loving wife Vicki; his children, Angela Miller [Jeffery], Bryan Schuerman [Jennifer], Cara Schuerman [Christian Moellman}; his adored granddaughter, Peyton Schuerman; his brothers Ron Schuerman [Pam], Bill Schuerman [Sue], Jim Schuerman [Connie] and his sister, Sondra Romero. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, LoaDell Tonderum; sisters-in-law, Debra Blanchard [Craig] and Lori Anderson [Mike]; his brother-in-law Michael Tonderum [Donna]; as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he treasured.
He will be laid to rest in Cedar Falls, Iowa alongside a Celebration of Life. Details about the service will be updated later.
The family will be making a memorial donation to the Oregon Humane Society in David’s name and asks that, instead of flowers, loved ones consider contributing toward this gift.
