Destiny Johnson passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and her best friend on December 27, 2021 from breast cancer. Stitch (from Lilo and..) accompanied her to every treatment—all of us will think of her when we see that character.
Destiny was born September 3, 1981 in Portland, Oregon and lived her entire life near the mouth of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. She enjoyed short hikes in the natural beauty of the area as well as visits to the Oregon Coast. Destiny attended school in Corbett, Oregon and graduated in 2000 from Reynolds High School after which she attended Mt. Hood Community College.
Destiny was funny, and smart, and loved by all who knew her. She was fearless—just ask the audience who watched her on stage at 3 years old, clutching her My Little Pony, joining the cast of Sleeping Beauty. She impressed everyone with her resilience, strength and heart through a physically challenging life. Her spirit will live on in all our hearts.
Destiny, an avid reader, had a room full of books—like a library. Wherever she went, a book was always with her—tucked in her purse or pocket. Destiny was excited to finally get a geocoin when, for her 40th birthday celebration, she and friend Tracy went geocaching at the Tri Cities Geocoin challenge. They went on a power trail, did night caching, and met Signal the frog.
Destiny loved animals (especially cats over the years); and her cat, Reznor, survives her living at her parent’s home now.
After working a few years in customer service for a Fortune 500 firm, Destiny changed careers. She successfully passed the test to become a US Postal Service Letter Carrier—following in her father’s footsteps. Destiny often commented that she was fond of her Postal family and in turn, to quote a Postal coworker, “she was a little sister to all of the letter carriers that knew her.”
Other quotes about Destiny from her friends:
“Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my bestie, Destiny. I will miss having her along in my adventure shenanigans.”
“…I (Louise) lost my Thelma. (Remember the movie?) She was so special and one of a kind!!! The world is a darker place without her! She was one of the FEW that not only knew me; but understood me!
“She was truly an inspiration. I will always remember her exuberant laugh and her extraordinary strength.
She will be dearly missed by everyone.” Destiny is loved by her parents, Dan Johnson & DeDe Pullman, her 2 brothers, Richard and Dan O; aunts, uncles, cousins and her best friend of 30 years, Tracy; and Destiny’s biological daughter Betsy Thomas and Betsy’s parents Mike and LoriAnn Thomas and brother Jamie Thomas of North Carolina.
A Celebration of Life to honor Destiny will be held on March 20, 2022 at 5:30pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1515 Cherry Park Road, Troutdale, Oregon (across the street from Reynolds High School).
