Dientje “Iet” Simons of Gresham, Oregon passed away February 21, 2012. She was born January 2, 1933, the next to youngest of five, on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia to Fredrickus Bernardius Simons and Thereasia Roem Simons. Dientje moved to Holland with her parents and siblings at a young age, and immigrated to the US in September 1961. She worked as a secretary in Holland, spent 12 years as a homemaker and stay at home mother, and worked at Mt. Hood Community College in the cafeteria.
Iet was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, and had a very private faith. She was always caring, compassionate, and generous; ready to lend a supportive hand to any who needed it, but was also honest and straight-forward with her advice. She enjoyed cooking, spending many hours preparing Dutch and Indonesian dishes for her family and friends. Iet also gardened, fished with her family, and enjoyed gaming at the casinos.
Iet is survived and missed by her sons: Larry (Angie) Braaksma of Gresham, Randy Braaksma of Vancouver, WA; daughter Maureen (Greg) Kudron of Chandler, AZ; brother Bert (Patty) Simons of Vancouver, WA; sister Ann Perenboom of Holland; uncle Hubert Simons; grandchildren April (Kelly-Shane) Fuller, Mychal McDonald, Corbin Braaksma, Harrison Braaksma, Brianna Braaksma; great-grandchild Gavin Fuller, nephew Andre Simons, as well as many other nieces and nephews in Holland.
A celebration of Iet’s life will be held February 28, 2011, at 2:00pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in
Gresham. Contributions may be made in memory of Dientje to My Sister’s Place, My Father’s House, or Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
