Dr. Blatchford served as an OBGYN in the U.S. Army. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan in the early 70's, he helped military families bring children into the world.
Upon his return home, Dr. Blatchford began a private practice, as a well-loved OBGYN Physician and Surgeon for the Portland Metro area. In addition to delivering thousands of babies, Dr. Blatchford dedicated his career to improving the health of women from all backgrounds. Once he retired from the medical field, he continued to serve his community by delivering children (by bus) for the Gresham-Barlow district.
Dr Blatchford was a competitive athlete and fitness buff, sharing his passion for sports with everyone he knew. “Papa Doug” spent many hours at the volleyball gym and ball park watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He loved softball and camaraderie with his softball buddies until his last day.
Dr. Blatchford is survived by his children, Robyn Blatchford, Grant Blatchford, and Tallah Blatchford, His former spouses, Ranya Blatchford and Bonnie Nicholson, 5 grandchildren, and many dear family and friends.
