Duane Mintier, born October 20, 1949 in Tokyo, Japan, died January 2, 2011 at age 62. He was the son of Cecil and Gail Mintier. Duane moved regularly as the son of military parents, having gone to 13 schools before graduating from David Douglas High School in 1967. Duane also served in the military, joining the Air Force after going to school at Mt. Hood Community College.
Duane continued to move, working in Tacoma, going to school in Albuquerque, and serving as an Air Traffic Controller at Wake Island. He then became a police officer, serving in Springfield, VA, La Grande, and Yamhill County before serving 22 years as a Port of Portland officer. He retired from there on April 3, 2009.
On July 22, 1978, Duane married Karen. Together they had three wonderful children. Duane enjoyed time with his family. They often traveled together, with Duane and Karen in the truck and the kids in the 5th wheel trailer behind. Together they explored the U.S., travelling to Yellowstone, Glacier Park, and as the kids turned of age, travelling to potential colleges with each one. Duane also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, backpacking, and climbing, successfully climbing Mt. Hood. He had a dry sense of humor, often “stirring the pot” with his wit, but he was also loving and compassionate.
Duane is survived and missed by his wife, Karen, son, Matthew of Beaverton; daughters Amanda of Beaverton and Kara of Ft. Worth, Tx, brother Paul, and grandchildren Owen Mintier, Anjuli Ornelas, and Wyatt Mintier.
