Edith attended Gresham High School, and often walked the 9.4 miles to and from school. She did not graduate (although she was only 18 days away from completing High School), as she met the man of her life, William Robert Scott. They wed before he went off to the war and during the war, she worked in a factory. After the war, she became a homemaker. William worked for the Portland Zoo, and Edith helped with raising the lions and tigers! She was a wonderful mother and housekeeper. Her husband became ill and she worked very hard to take care of him every day throughout his illness. Her family could not have asked for a better mom or grandma.
Edith spent many years as a member of Welcome Wagon. She was raised Quaker/Friends, although she did not attend a particular church. She enjoyed spending time with family, making crafts, and making porcelain dolls (which she made 100s of)!
Edith will especially be remembered for the love she had for her family and the adventures she had with them, her dolls, and the crafts that she made. Edith immigrated to Oregon from Oklahoma during the dust bowl after the loss of a brother due to an accident. She had many fond memories of the trip to Oregon in a model A Ford with her two brothers and two sisters…especially many flat tires. She loved swimming in the sea and spotting and collecting shells, followed by frozen yogurts and brownies at a local café. She was very crafty, and she loved to make things for her family and friends such as a large carry bag for an African Drum. Even in her 90s, she was decorating pillow slips and making Christmas Ornaments as gifts. She was a calm and caring person, and she also showed immense inner strength – even after being seriously ill, she was determine to fly over to Florida to meet her latest additions of great-grandchildren, Leo and Tilly, for the first time. And, of course, this strength enabled her to bounce back from the numerous health challenged she faced and to live to such a grand age.
Some treasured family memories will include patiently working our way through 1000 piece puzzles, being thrashed in Yahtzee time and time again, and hearing the amazing stories Edith relayed about her childhood. These are wonderful, happy times that will be treasured.
Edith is survived by her son, Gary Scott and her daughter, Sandra Strait; grandchildren, Cheri Hall, Cinda Scott, Jacob Scott, Fran Scott and Ellie Marsden; great grandchildren, Garren Hall, Sequoia and Teeka Cross-Scott, Leo and Lachland Scott, Matilda and Toby Marsden, Isabel Scott and one more on the way.
Edith will be laid to rest in Willamette National Cemetery.
