

Lifetime resident of Pleasant Home, Edward “Ederd” Stephen Cooper died Sunday May 5, 2013 at his home surrounded by family. He was 83. A public visitation will be held from 9am to 5pm on Saturday May 11, 2013 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home 520 W Powell Blvd, Gresham, OR. The memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Monday May 13, 2013 also at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 2:00pm at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.
Edward was born May 12, 1929 in Portland, OR to Walter Godbey and Elva Blanche (Stephens) Cooper. He attented Gresham H.S. and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. In December 1979, Edward married his sweetheart, Mary Zufelde in Vancouver, WA. They traveled with a couple of car clubs, including Rose City Model T Club to visit car shows around the area. Edward and Mary traveled extensively through Eastern and Central Oregon, always ending in the Steens Mountain, their favorite getaway. Edward also enjoyed building models, riding motorcycles, and collecting clocks. Edward worked many jobs in his younger life, retiring from both Reynolds Metal after over 15 years and the Portland Steel and Iron Works Company after over 20 years. After retirement, he raised llamas for 17 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Cooper of Gresham, OR; daughters, Lynda Ader of Gresham, OR Pamela Cooper of Wood Village, OR, Cathy Cooper of Portland, OR, Julie Reece of Arlington, WA, and Penny Martin of Portland, OR; sons Don Buffman of Stanley, ID and Alvin Martin of Dahlonega, GA; brothers David Cooper of Yuma, AZ and Nick Cooper of Abu Dhabi, UAE; sisters Marjorie Sander and Geraldine Glenn, both of Gresham, OR; as well as 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made in Edward’s name to the American Heart Association at PO Box 742030, Los Angeles, CA 90074-2030.
