

Betty was born on October 5, 1926 in Portland, Oregon and was the daughter of Horace and Mary (Parker) Welch. She graduated from Commerce (Cleveland) High School in 1945. On September 17, 1945 she married Robert Barger in Vancouver, Washington. During the War, while her husband was in the service, Betty worked as a secretary. She later worked as an admitting clerk for Providence Health Systems for many years. In 1965, she left her job and worked as homemaker caring for her Gresham home and raising her three daughters. She later went back to the work force as a bookkeeper for her husband’s company, B&B Metals. She retired in 1989.
Betty had many hobbies. She was a Trail Blazer Season Ticket holder since 1978 and loved watching them play. She enjoyed reading and traveling and she had a beautiful rose garden. Betty’s greatest love was simply her family. She loved her family and she loved being a grandma. Betty was loving and supportive and had a genuine sense of humor. She was always there when she was needed and never muttered a harsh word. S She was a loving wife to her husband, a wonderful mother to her three daughters and an amazing grandmother. She was a true role model and will be dearly missed.
Betty is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Barger of Gresham, daughters, Karen Campbell of Clackamas, Cindy Johnson of Gresham and Kathy Watkins of Troutdale and sister, Jeanette Huffman of Portland along with her four grandchildren; Angie, Jenny, Craig and Bobby. Her siblings; Hale Welch, Jean Welch, Wilber Welch, Edward Welch, Ethel Welch, Daisy Welch and Mildred Hampton all preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 11:00 am at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Private interment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Betty to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
