Eugene was born on June 11, 1941 in Portland, Oregon and was the son of Veryl and Maxine (Morgan) Stone. He graduated from Gresham high school in 1959 and completed his bachelor’s degree in geology at Portland State University in 1963. After graduation,
Eugene enlisted in the Army Reserves and was recruited by the CIA. He worked as a photo interpreter in Washington, D.C. He married Maureen Tinsley on January 24, 1970, in Butte, Montana, where his brother Don served as his best man. He spent most of his career as a computer programmer, starting at Rollins Leasing and ending at Michaels of Oregon. In 2001, Eugene went to work as a bus driver for the Reynolds School District and as a cadet recruiter for West Point. He retired in 2008.
Eugene enjoyed many things in life such as reading, genealogy, photography, folk music and attending sporting events at Reynolds High School. He especially enjoyed assisting the rugby team. He also enjoyed his Irish Wolfhounds. Eugene was known by many to be a “Human Google.” He knew the answers to trivia questions as well as many random facts. One of his favorite things was to take road trips. He liked to drive to Reno annually to play blackjack with his friend Dean, visit the beach in Oceanside with family and friends, and to travel to Montana and visit Yellowstone. Most important to Eugene was his family.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Maureen Stone of Portland, son, Jason Stone of Gresham, daughters Morgan Stone of New York and Heather Stone of Washington, brothers Bob Stone of Sandy and Don Stone of Gresham, and cousin, James Tanner of Washington, along with one grandchild.
A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to the rugby team at Reynolds High School. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
