

Gerald Julius Espenel, 84 years of age, passed on Wednesday November 6th 2024, at Mt Hood Legacy Hospital. Gerald was born on August 14, 1940, in Portland, Oregon, to Alphonse and Anita (Seifert) Espenel. He grew up in Troutdale, Oregon along the banks of the Sandy River. In 1967, he married Domitilia DeSoto in Cubero, New Mexico. They settled in Portland Oregon, where they had and raised their two children, Renee Espenel and Bryan Espenel. Gerald spent much of his free time enjoying the beauty of the PNW, fishing, camping, hunting and taking his family on scenic drives and picnics. He loved Oregon and the endless activities it offered, sharing his appreciation for the outdoors with his family and friends from the beaches to the mountains. He spent most of his career as a tradesman, carpenter, for the Portland School District.
Gerald is preceded in death by his wife Domitilia DeSoto Espenel, his son Bryan Espenel, his parents Alphonse and Anita Espenel; his four older brothers Robert Espenel, Wayne Espenel, Donald Espenel and Richard Espenel.
He is survived by his daughter Renee Espenel and her husband John Morrow; his daughter in law Jaime (Roe) Espenel, and his two grandchildren Julianna and Ethen.
He will be laid to rest with Military honors at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800, SE Mt Scott Blvd, Portland, Oregon. A private celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
