On April 20, 1951, Helen married Edwin L. Schmitt in Vancouver, Washington. They had four children: Susan, Patti, Judi, and Jane. Edwin passed on July 7, 1983.
Helen had intended to become a nurse, but she focused on raising her lovely children. She ultimately became a bookkeeper for Norpac, and she worked there for many years, in addition to being a homemaker. Helen volunteered with Busy Bees and Pacs Center Health Clinic, as well as Fill a Stocking and Fill a Heart.
Helen had a servant’s heart. She was kind, charitable and generous and she believed in helping others even if you do not have much yourself. She taught her children the importance of volunteer work and serving others. She was a wonderful mother to her children, and her daughters fondly remember how she often made the girls matching dresses for special occasions.
At 87 years of age, Helen went to heaven to be with her mother on July 14, 2018. She will be greatly missed by her family who will forever cherish her memory.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 3 of her siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Kennedy, Patti Schmitt, Judi Schmitt and Jane Doyle; her grandchildren, Adam Kennedy, Rachael Doyle, Becka Garcia, Thomas Doyle and Jacob Doyle; her great granddaughter, Camila Garcia, and her brother, Stan Saddler.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, with viewing prior to the service from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Willamette National Cemetery.
