February 28, 1929 - November 14, 2019.
Henry Rassi was born in Portland, Oregon to Elizabeth Rudishauser Rassi, and Henry Earl Rassi Sr.
He was the youngest of five children: Wayne, Bob, Roberta, Arline and Henry Jr.
He grew up on Syracuse Street in St. Johns, attended James John Grade School and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1948.
His junior and senior years he played varsity football, ran track and pole vaulted.
He was science club president. School photographer and often produced science related assemblies.
He was drafted into the US Army, spent 2 years in Korea as a combat photographer with the 1st Cavalry Division. (1950-1952)
Returning home he attended Multnomah and Vanport Colleges.
Henry married Saundra W. Fleming in 1955 and moved to The Dallas Oregon, where Henry was employed by Harvey Aluminum as an analytical chemist.
In 1966 he returned to the St. Johns area to become chief chemist and later, plant manager for Koppers Company, located on St. Helens Road. He retired in 1983.
He and his family moved to Damascus, OR in 1993.
Henry and Saundra have four children, Darrel (Brenda) Darwin (Debbie), DelWayne (Laura), and Danita (Jeff Mullins) eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Henry is survived by his wife Saundra, sister Arline, and his four children.
Henry loved the outdoors and kept a small vineyard and orchard, growing grapes and making wine and jellies.
He had a fondness for trout and salmon fishing, in addition for crabbing in Garibaldi Bay.
Gardening was his favorite hobby and he loved sharing his produce with family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 13, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Christ the Vine Lutheran Church located at 18677 SE HWY 212, Damascus, OR.
