Homer Wendell Westcott, age 90, of Portland, Oregon passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
Homer was born to Nina Westcott in Vinton, Iowa on July 21, 1932. Later the family moved to Portland where Homer graduated from Benson High School. After graduation, he moved to Anchorage to work on the Alaska Railroad.
He was soon drafted, joined the Army and very quickly earned the rank of Sgt. He also was a part of the 82nd Airborne Divi. as a Paratrooper. He attended Oregon State where he earned his degree and became a Prof. Engr, working for private firms, traveling the U.S. & Canada as a Project Engr. During this period of his life he became a ski instructor (on weekends), designed and built a beautiful A Frame cabin near Mt Hood and enjoyed his bachelor lifestyle.
Then he met his future wife, Janet Williams, also a ski instructor, in 1980. They married in 1983 and he also gained a daughter, Jenny Alexander, which was a blessing for both of them. Homer retired in 1991 from the Corps of Engineers and took up the hobby of buying real estate and refurbishing the homes for rentals. He and Janet moved to Summerplace where they enjoyed a life of leisure for 30 yrs.
Homer was preceded in death by his mother, Nina, baby brother, Ralph, sisters, Frances Herr & Gladys Greer and brother-in-law, Walt. Besides Janet and Jenny, he leaves behind 3 sisters, Ruth, Doris Durrell (Mike), Linda Gillespie (Chuck) and nieces and nephews. We miss him so very much, both family and friends. A celebration of life will be held sometime in January.
A graveside service for Homer will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 10:45 AM at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt Scott Blvd, Portland, Oregon. Please be at the cemetery by 9:45 am.
