She was born on September 1, 1921 in her family home in Boring, Oregon to August and Olive (Backlund) Lekberg.
Irene graduated from Sandy High School in 1939 and married Lee Caldwell in March of 1942.
She worked as a secretary for Walter Marx Gardens, Oregon Bulb farm, and the Gresham Credit Bureau. She got to travel with Lee to Taiwan, Chicago, Washington DC, and Hawaii.
After Lee’s retirement they moved to Rock Creek Reservoir, and enjoyed fishing, hiking, tole painting, rooting for the Portland Trail Blazers, making pine baskets and church activities. They would snow bird to Arizona for the winter months but loved Rock Creek so they were happy to return.
She loved flowers and watching the beautiful colors that autumn would always bring. Her great loves were the Lord and her family. Her favorite bible verse was Romans 8:28; “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God”. She played the piano and organ for the church for many years.
Irene is survived by her sister, May Maxwell; brother, Raynold Lekberg; daughters Judy Becker and Darlene Meyer and son Dan Caldwell; as well as 5 grandchildren: Jill, Marc, Jaclyn, Stephanie, and Erik; 8 great grandsons: Hunter, Colton, Zach, Gabe, Beau, Tucker, Alex, and Brandon and 1 great-great-grandson, Wyatt
