

Jan Elaine Sands (Kerwood), age 70, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025, in Gresham, Oregon. Born on November 21, 1954, in Portland, Oregon, Jan lived a life marked by love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
Jan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, humor, and generous love touched the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved husband, Daniel Sands; her four children: Alan Sands, Shawn Scanlon, Jada Edmunson, and Anna Knight; and her cherished grandchildren: Aiden Sands, Parker Sands, Ivory Knight, Gavin Knight, Emma Knight, Mackenzie Edmunson, Logan Edmunson, Stella Scanlon, and Vivian Scanlon.
Her family was the center of her world and the source of her greatest joy Professionally, Jan spent many years working as a paralegal. Her meticulous attention to detail and deep compassion for others made her an invaluable presence in the legal field. She approached her work with integrity and care—qualities that earned the respect of her colleagues.
Outside of work, Jan embraced life with enthusiasm and heart. She found joy in reading books that sparked her curiosity and imagination. Music was another passion—she loved playing guitar and listening to a variety of music. She also loved the beach and escaped there with dear friends and family anytime she could. Known for her quick wit and funny jokes, Jan had a gift for making others laugh and feel at ease. Whether sharing stories over lunch with friends or enjoying quiet moments with loved ones, she brought light to every gathering.
She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Corey Kerwood; her mother Martha Mae Jones; and her father Glenn Kerwood. Though their absence was deeply felt throughout Jan’s life, she carried their memory forward with grace.
Jan’s laughter, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on in the music she loved, the stories she shared, and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
