He graduated from Louisville High School in 1953 and attended college for two years before joining the Air Force. He was first stationed in Germany and then at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane Washington. There he met and married Barbara Hausken in 1959. They moved to Birmingham Alabama where he worked for Firestone Tires. In 1960 they moved back to Spokane where he began a long career with Johnson Controls. He designed and sold building automation systems. In 1964 he transferred to Portland and worked there until his retirement in 1996. After retirement, he and his wife traveled around the US in their motor home and in 2009 began spending their winters in Casa Grande Arizona at the Sundance 1 RV Resort.
Jerome is survived by his wife Barbara, 3 children, Joel Parker, Beth Alloway, and Jill Parker- Kinniburgh. He also had 4 granddaughters; Joanna Washburn, Jacqueline Low, Jeanne Crumpton, Hannah Kinniburgh, and two great-grandchildren, Catherine Washburn and Hayden Washburn. Jerome is survived by one sister, Lynette Moorhead and many nieces and nephews.
Jerome was best known for his great sense of humor and dedication to his family. He enjoyed camping with his family all over Oregon and spent several memorable family vacations driving across country to visit family in Louisiana. He served as an Assistant Pack Master to Cub Scout Pack 664 in the mid-1970s and liked to attend local high school sports events (always a Gresham Gophers fan). While in Casa Grande he was a loyal fan and regularly attended the Central Arizona College Women’s Basketball games with Barbara. More recently, he was a notable fixture at his granddaughter’s games.
Jerome was able to realize his wish to die at home surrounded by family with the help of Mt. Hood Hospice and Providence Healthcare Systems. His surviving family would like to thank those organizations for all their care, help and support.
