

Former Gresham resident JoAnn Gwendolyn Kelley, 79, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012 in Redmond, Washington. She was born on September 13, 1932 in Eugene, Oregon to James and Mabel (Lamb) Haines. She grew up in Eugene and graduated from high school in 1950 and later received her nursing degree from OHSU in 1954. She married James Toner in 1952 in Eugene, Oregon and divorced later. He preceded her in death in 2008. She married Robert Kelley in 1986 in Fairview, Oregon and he preceded her in death in 2009. She moved to East County in 1953 from Eugene and then to Gresham in 1976 before she began snow-birding and finally moving to Surprise, Arizona in 1998. JoAnn worked as a registered nurse in the Portland area for many years and retired in 1993 from Mt. Hood Medical Center after 10 years. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church and most recently a member of St. Clare of Assisi in Surprise, Arizona. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, reading, playing piano and playing many games.
She is survived by her daughters Patty Dingman and Donna Toner of Gresham OR and Jackie Watkins of Redmond WA; son Bill Toner of Tualatin OR; stepdaughter Linda Kelley of Portland OR; stepsons Bob Kelley of Dayton NV and Ken Kelley of Vancouver WA; sister Marylon Smith of Mooresville NC; seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at St. Henry Catholic Church, 346 NW First Street in Gresham, Oregon. Private interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham, Oregon. Donations may be made to St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 17111 W. Bell Road, Surprise AZ 85374 or charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, Oregon.
