John B. Baird passed away on October 20, 2013 at his home in Gresham. He was born on April 24, 1926 in Portland, Oregon. At the age of 12, John moved with his family to their native country of Scotland. He was raised there and served in the US Army in Scotland during WWII. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the United States and joined the Marine Corps, where he served in the Korean War. There he survived the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, earning him the distinction of being one of the “Chosin Few”. After his service he moved back to Oregon, where he spent the rest of his life.
John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. He was good at fixing and building things, and built an airplane with one of his friends that flew successfully. He will be missed by many. John is survived by his wife, Dorine; children Roxanne (Jeff) Ramseyer, Brook Baird, and Brad Baird; step-daughter Denise (Dale) Watts; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. A committal service with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday October 25, 2013 at 11:00am. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
