

John was born to Joseph and Ann Cleary in Chicago, Illinois. They were joined by another son, John's brother Jimmy, in 1946. Early on, the family moved to Los Angeles and then San Francisco, where Joseph ran the LaFayette Hotel and John attended St. Francis School and practiced his Catholic faith. He was baptized in April 1939, confirmed in May 1951, and then served as an altar boy.
In the early 1970s, John relocated to Portland, Oregon where he got remarried and began to raise his family. He loved antiquing and collecting. He was a lover of history and movies and could often be found watching American Pickers on TV. In the 1980s, he began working at Motorcycle, Tire, and Wheel and eventually became the owner of the shop.
John is survived by his wife, Maura Cleary, his sons Michael Shawn, Joseph, and Frisco, his daughters Tiffany and Andrea, his six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his loving parents and his brother, Jimmy.
