

East County resident, John Raymond Ewing, was born in Portland, Oregon to Lyle A. Ewing and Grace I. Youmans. He attended Kennedy Elementary School and Jefferson High School. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1958 with a B.S. in Psychology and received an ROTC Commission as a 2nd Lt. John spent 24 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1982 as a Lt. Col. He was a command pilot with over 3,000 hours in the C-130, an instructor, a writer, and a briefer.
In 1959 he married Annette Carson of Portland, Oregon. They were married over 52 years. John was an Eagle Scout with God and Country Award. He was a member of Cornerstone Masonic Lodge #157 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite, Al Kader Shrine and the Goodwill Ambassadors. He liked to sing in choir and barbershop quartets, loved to fish and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Annette; son Jeffrey Ewing; daughter Karen McEwan; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 24, 2012 at 2pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 16830 SE Division St in Gresham, Oregon. Burial was on February 29, 2012 at Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Snow Cap Community Charities.
