

John was born on July 30, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois and was the son of John and Olga (Orley) King. He graduated from Riverside High School in Riverside, Illinois in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy. He honorably served his country during WWII and received an honorable discharge in 1946.
Upon his return from the service, John continued his education at Northwestern University. He completed his two year program and on April 10, 1948, he married Elizabeth Jean Craig in Riverside, Illinois. They moved to San Francisco where John worked for Southern Pacific Railroad. They later moved to Portland, Oregon where he worked for Georgia Pacific Railroad. In 1963, he moved to Sandy. He took an early retirement at age 55 from the Railroad System and founded John King Enterprises, a traffic consulting firm. He later owned and operated International Dispatch, a freight transportation company, in Portland. In 1983 he moved the business to Sandy and in 1996 he retired.
John was very involved with the business community and promoting his two companies. He served on the boards of different business related groups based within his field. In his free time, he enjoyed RVing, buying and selling used cars, golf and traveling. He considered himself to be a “rancher” and was a hard worker with extremely high work ethics. He was a devoted family man and simply enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family. He was a member of Good Shepherd Community Church in Boring, OR.
John is survived by his children; David King of California, Daniel King of Sandy and Barbara Hubbard of Sandy and brother, Harold King of Mexico along with 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. His wife Elizabeth, daughter, Ann King and his sister Delores “Dolly” Dunn all preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 10:00 am -4:00 pm also at Bateman Carroll. Interment will be on Monday at Willamette National Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Billy Graham Association..
