John Richard Veldink was born April 20th, 1944 in Portland, Oregon to Floyd Veldink and Madonna (Dorgan) Humphrey. At a very young age he moved to Spokane, Washington where he attended Saint Francis Xavier School and graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School in 1962. After graduation, John moved back to Portland, Oregon where he raised his two sons, Richard and Jeffrey. He worked at Esco Steel Corp. for 44 years before retiring in 2009.
John loved camping, fishing, hunting and the great outdoors. He was very athletic and ran many marathons, including the Hood to Coast Marathon several times. He also loved golf and played in many tournaments over the years. Later in life he enjoyed movies (Clint Eastwood movies were his favorite) and the University of Oregon football games on tv.
John married four times. He was preceded in death by his fourth wife Lydina (Patterson) Veldink in 2009. He was also preceded death by his father Floyd and step father Russell Humphrey and sister, Dianne Lookabill. He is survived by his mother Madonna, two sons: Richard and Jeffrey, brothers: Robert (Bobby) Humphrey, Ronald (Ronny) Humphrey, Ralph Veldink, sisters: Kathleen Murray and Darlene Swanson. many grandchildren, nephews and nieces, aunts and cousins.
