Joe was born March 14th, 1961 in Eugene, Oregon to Barbara and Don Schuberg, the youngest of four children. He is survived by his wife, Micor, his mother Barbara Schuberg Coleman, older brothers Paul (Nancy) and Tom Schuberg, sister Carol Schuberg, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and hundreds of friends around the world.
Joe received his early education in Oregon; his family was transferred to Iowa when he was in the 5th grade. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in Iowa. Joe had many friends and was the center of everything fun and interesting. He had many interests and was an outstanding wrestler. He received a scholarship and wrestled at the University of Utah, then transferred to Oregon State to complete his degree in physical education and industrial fitness.
A week after graduation, he was hired to set up fitness centers at luxury hotels throughout the world. He worked in Australia, Indonesia, Korea, China, Brazil, Panama, Guatemala, and was appointed by the first Bush Administration to manager Fitness Expo 92’ in Spain. He had a gift for learning a variety of languages and was conversational in all of them. This brought smiles to internationals he would speak to when back in the States, and amazed us all. It was part of his warm, welcoming spirit we all cherished…and what a personality! He had a radio show segment in Australia as the “Fitness Guy”, which he was perfect for.
At the age of 38, Joe came back to Oregon and managed several fitness clubs before becoming manager of the Cascade Ski Lodge in Government Camp. This was his favorite “retirement” job that connected him so deeply with the Cascade Community. He will forever be a part of his “other” mountain family.
To know Joe was an uplifting, lasting experience. He never knew a stranger and naturally made everyone happy in his presence. He was a problem solver and was always ready to help you with yours. He called it like he saw it. He made and kept friends who always talked about his positive influence. He brought fun and joy to all he met.
Micor was the love of his life. His mother, father, siblings, and friends were always close to his heart.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 7th, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a memorial of Joe can be sent to Barbara Coleman at 21745 Lachenview Lane in Fairview, Oregon 97024.
A Private Family Interment will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park.
