Joyce was born in Topeka, KS on October 9, 1940, to Olaf Jesse and Ethel Majel Mears Rosebrook. She was the second oldest among her siblings: Gary, Glenn and Janice. The family moved around much of Joyce’s childhood, but she lived in the Portland area the majority of her life.
Joyce met the love of her life and soul mate, George Young, and they were married on November 26, 1966. The two met while Joyce was helping out at her mother’s restaurant in Portland. Joyce was also working at First National Bank of Oregon, as a bank teller in the Rockwood area of Portland. One and a half years later, in April of 1968, their daughter, Sherri Lynn was born. A few years following, in February of 1971, another daughter, Jodi Ann was born. Once Sherri was born, Joyce became a homemaker, and didn’t return to work until both girls were in middle/high school. At that time she began working again. Through the years she worked for various offices doing bookkeeping and payroll. She was a hard working, trusted employee, who was loved by all her coworkers, customers and vendors.
Joyce had such a heart for animals…cats in particular. There wasn’t a cat she didn’t love. And they certainly knew it, because strays would make it a point to find their way to her backyard, and would never leave! She was fondly known as “The Cat Lady”. She volunteered for at least 10-15 years, from 1990 to the early 2000’s, at House of Dreams, a cat shelter in the Parkrose area of Portland.
Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards and board games, going out to karaoke, and participating in local jam sessions with her husband. She was great at telling stories, which her family never tired of. She was quite a social gal, and loved people. She was kind and caring to everyone she met. People were naturally drawn to her, and loved her fun and friendly spirit.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Sherri Franke (Keith); her two beloved grandchildren, Dillon and Vanessa Franke; her brothers, Gary Rosebrook (Ginger), Glenn Rosebrook (Pat); and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Olaf and Ethel Rosebrook, her daughter, Jodi Young, her husband, George Young, and her sister, Janice Morris.
Joyce will forever be in our hearts and in our memories. We know that because of her trust in Jesus as her Lord and Savior, we will see her again!
A Celebration of Life will be held at New Heights Community Church, located at 7913 NE 58th Avenue, Vancouver, WA, at 10:30 am on Monday, September 27, 2021. A reception will immediately follow at the church. A private family interment will be at 2:00 pm, at Forest Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum in Gresham, OR, where Joyce will be laid to rest.
