Kasper "Kas" James Weigant
January 30, 1950 – March 30, 2020
Kas Weigant, born January 30, 1950, passed away on March 30, 2020. Kas was the first of four children born to Kas and Margaret O’Connell Weigant in Portland, Oregon. His family eventually moved to Oklahoma where he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Special Education. He taught special needs children before earning his law degree from Tulsa University. He began his legal career with the Social Security Office in Houston, Texas and eventually ended back in Oregon. He worked for the Social Security Office of hearings and appeals as a senior attorney for 25 years. Kas and Tom made their home in Gresham, Oregon in 2007.
As a young person, Kas ran cross country and wrestled on his High School teams. He also acted in a few school plays. Even before he could drive, he began his lifelong interest in cars-if you mentioned a car, he could give you facts and figures immediately. His other priorities were family, animals and his home. Kas was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, the Oregon and Oklahoma Bar Associations. He loved to travel, especially to Ireland. He had both a US and an Irish passport. He loved family outings, especially the Alaskan cruise and catching his first fish at Fish Lake near Leavenworth, Washington. He enjoyed gardening. He was especially fond of his Oklahoma rose. Community was important to Kas. People were always welcome in his (our) home. His annual Christmas party to construct his Nativity set (which is over 500 pieces) was always a highlight, averaging 70 people. He is remembered by friends as always being there to help. When asked how you remember Kas, people have said "lovable, bright spot, nice to everyone, honest, helpful, craftsman, and a great big brother". Kas always made an effort to make you feel loved.
Kas is survived by his long-time companion Tom Cullen, his siblings, Sheila Busby(Joel) and Hugh Weigant (Libby), sister-in-law Ellen Weigant, seven nephews and five nieces, numerous great-nephews and great-nieces, cousins, many close friends and loved ones. His parents, Kas and Margaret, and brother Jim Weigant preceded him in death.
Due to the Covid 19 virus there is no service at this time.
Donations can be made in Kas's name to the Friends of Multnomah County Shelter Animals (FMSCA) at friendsofmultcopets.org or the Providence Portland Medical Foundation.
