Today, we gather with heavy hearts to remember and celebrate a man who was deeply loved and meant so much to so many—a cherished son, brother, husband, dad, father-in-law, grandad, loyal friend, and compassionate member of his community.
Larry was born in 1953 in Birmingham, England, to Horacio “Tex” and Jean Cantu. He was a beloved brother to Steve and Glen and a cherished brother-in-law to Steve’s wife, Lory.
In 1978, at the age of 25, Larry married Beth, whom he met while stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. They moved to Oregon in 1979 and built a beautiful life together, filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. They remained happily married until his passing, always standing beside one another and having each other’s backs through every season of life. Their love and devotion were truly special.
Larry was a loving father to Lisa and Landon and a proud father-in-law to Matt and Kayla “KK.” He was incredibly proud of the people his children had become. He admired their kindness, generosity, responsibility, and caring hearts, knowing that the values he cherished most were reflected in them.
He was also a devoted and proud grandad to Brady, Kayla “Birdie,” Mason, and Bryson. His grandchildren brought a special light into his life. He treasured every moment with them—the playing, the laughter, the stories, and the simple joy of being together.
Larry was a loyal friend who valued the people in his life and was always willing to offer support, kindness, and companionship. He was also a compassionate member of his community, caring deeply about others and making a positive difference through his generosity and thoughtful spirit.
Larry knew how to enjoy life. He loved going to the beach, riding his Harley, traveling, and watching movies—especially Top Gun. He also enjoyed trying his luck at the slot machines, and there was nothing quite like seeing his excitement when he came out a winner.
He had a collector’s spirit and found joy in gathering things that reflected his interests and experiences. Each collection held a story, just as every adventure and memory became part of the life he shared with those around him.
But more than anything, Larry loved his family. Being together, making memories, and sharing life’s ordinary moments meant the most to him. Those memories are now among the greatest gifts he has left us—memories we will carry in our hearts and pass down for generations.
We will miss his presence, his laughter, his stories, and the countless little things that made him who he was. We will miss the comfort of knowing he was there, the joy he brought into a room, and the love he gave so freely.
Although our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the years we had with him, for the laughter and adventures, and for the love that will remain with us always.
Larry, you will always be loved, always be remembered, and forever be a part of us.
Until we meet again,
we love you.
Beth & Family
