

Gresham resident Lawrence Burr Faatz passed away on July 17, 2010. He was 81. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 23 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home followed by a committal service with Military Honors at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Lawrence was born December 4, 1928 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Charles and Gertrude (Lawrence) Faatz. The family lived in Scranton until Lawrence was 12, moving to Miami, Florida in 1940. In the fall of 1947, his family moved to Finn Rack, Oregon where he entered McKenzie High School his senior year. He attended the University of Oregon for almost two years and then worked for the US Forest Service and Lane-Pacific Logging Company before entering the US Army in October 18, 1950. He serviced with the 45th Infantry Division and Field Artillery in both Japan and Korea until August 21, 1952. While stationed at Camp Polk, Louisiana, he married Betty Jo Carlton on December 30, 1950. In the fall of 1953 he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to attend Purdue University and received a diploma as Associate Technical Aide in Electrical Technology on June 5, 1955. Lawrence and Betty had two daughters; Christy was born in 1957 and Rebecca was born in 1961. Lawrence retired from Albertsons Inc. in 1992 after 30 years. Lawrence loved boating, camping and taking trips with his family that included either pastime. In 2008, Lawrence and Betty moved to Courtyard Fountains in Gresham where everyone enjoyed his sense of humor and charming smile.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 60 years; daughters, Christy Canzler of Gresham; and Rebecca Hanken of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
