A beloved mother, an amazing grandmother, and a proud and loving great grandmother; Lena Marie LoPiparo passed away while surrounded by her family on September 1, 2017, at her home in Gresham. Mrs. LoPiparo devoted her life to her family.
Mrs. LoPiparo, the daughter of Catherine (Sunseri) Amato and Phillip Amato was born on July 16, 1923. Her parents were immigrants from Italy. She graduated from Commerce high School in 1941. As the daughter of a widow, while in elementary and high school, she and her grandmother would care for her younger sister and manage the house hold as her mother worked in a cannery in Portland.
Lena married George Mario LoPiparo on April 28, 1946. They lived in Portland in the early years and later moved to Milwaukie; in 1999 they built their dream home and moved to Gresham. She was a master homemaker and known for her skills in the kitchen cooking Italian food and baking traditional Italian cookies. Her focus and greatest joy was her family.
Known as Mama, Nanny, and Big Nana, she is survived by a loving family, Daughter Kathi (Dane) Segrin of Oregon City and Son George P. (Bea) LoPiparo of Boring. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jami Segrin (Mike) Martin, Jennifer Segrin (Jake) Maben, Noelle LoPiparo, and Jeanna Segrin (Tony) Bomotti. Her great grandchildren were the light of her life; Dane, Rylee, and Abbi Maben, Ellie and Tyler martin, Kelsey LoPiparo, Roman and Max Bomotti.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, Sep 10th from 3-7 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church at 346 N.W. first Street in Gresham at 10am on Sep. 12th. A Luncheon reception will follow in the Fireside room, a private family internment at Willamette National cemetery will follow.
