

Growing up in Montana he enjoyed hunting deer and antelope with his dad and two brothers. He graduated from high school in 1959 and attended airline school in Kansas City. In 1962 he served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He married his wife Carol on June 11, 1965 and the two moved to Portland, OR. in October 1965. He was hired on at Electronic Specialties in November 1965 and retired from Boeing July 2004.
After retirement he enjoyed volunteering with Holiday Community Outreach making Christmas toys and breakfasts with his fellow Boeing retirees.
Chet was a devoted husband, a loving father and papa. He loved spending summers with his family at their boathouse at Ducks Moorage on the Columbia River where he enjoyed playing horseshoes and pulling his children and many kids behind his boat the Hallett. He also spent many summer vacations going back to Forsyth MT for class and family reunions. In the early fall Chet enjoyed going to Happy Camp at the Oregon coast with close friends. Chet’s deep laughter and sense of humor will be missed. He loved his family and was always loved by all his nieces and nephews.
Chet is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Tiani, (James), grandson Brayden Buchanan, son Brandyn (Connie), sisters Peggy Kirby, Margie Waples, Velma (Breezy) Grba, brother Perry Leary and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Kirby and Rose Leary, brother Kirby Leary II.
A funeral service is scheduled for March 11, 2022, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, OR. Refreshments and cookies will be served after the service.
