Lucille Ann Cumming died peacefully on June 4, 2022 in Oregon City, Oregon at the age of 71 surrounded by her loving family.
A native Oregonian, Lucille was born on October 31, 1950 to the late Alice and Elmer Schoenborn in Hood River, OR. She spent her childhood and young adult years in Gresham, OR and was a graduate of Gresham High School. Lucille had a love of English and writing which she pursued into college. She became a Portland State University graduate in 1973. A member of the Turtle Mountain Chippewa tribe of South Dakota, she was always thankful for their financial support of her educational goals.
During her high school years, she met her former husband, Steven Cumming. Lucille and Steven were married in 1974 and were blessed with three children. In 1982, after the births of their first two children, Grant and Tina, business opportunities would relocate them to Fresno, California where their youngest son, Clinton, was born. Steven and Lucille would spend over 20 years in Fresno building a family construction business while raising their children. In 2004, Lucille would relocate to Saint George, Utah where she would spend the next 12 years enjoying the red rock views. Though their married life together ended after 35 years, Steven and Lucille continued their loving and supportive friendship until her death. Lucille would eventually return to her home state of Oregon in 2016 allowing her to be closer to family and friends.
First and foremost, Lucille spent her life devoted to her family. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest treasures. Lucille adored any and all conversations with her loved ones and cherished any opportunity to give someone a gift whether big or small. She gave amazing hugs and was the best listener. The family knew that Lucille never forgot a birthday, anniversary or special occasion. Though much of her life she struggled with mental health issues, Lucille blessed the world with an example of true kindness and a reminder to continuously be grateful for life’s offerings despite its imperfections.
Lucille leaves behind her son Grant Cumming and his wife Michelle; daughter Tina Franck and her husband Chris; son Clinton Cumming and his wife Alex; nephews Paul and Jerry Schoenborn; and niece Dawn Butts along with six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Elmer Schoenborn, and her two brothers, Jerome and Paul Schoenborn.
