

Marina Joye (Davis) Slaton of Boring, Oregon passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 22, 2017 of natural causes. She was born on March 9, 1942 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho as the only child of Walter and Ina Davis.
For most of her school years, Marina lived in Hood River, Oregon where her father was a carpenter. The family later moved to Portland, Oregon, and she attended Gresham Union High School, actively participating in choir and graduating in 1960.
Marina married Donald R. Slaton in 1961, and the couple settled in Boring, Oregon. A dedicated homemaker, she also enjoyed volunteering as a Girl Scout Troop leader who led camping trips and taught sewing, arts, crafts, and other skills. After many years as a homemaker, she opened a sewing and alternations store on Division Street in Portland. She later worked at Fabric Depot.
Marina was a member of Open Door Baptist Church for 38 years and served in many ways, including as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and baker of spritz cookies.
When she finally retired, Marina continued to dedicate her life to her church and friends. She was known for considerable energy that took her hiking, tent camping, and even indoor skydiving for her 75th birthday. She had a deep passion for music, life, knowledge, reading, and baking.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Christie Slaton Zgourides, and son-in-law, George D. Zgourides.
A viewing will be on August 1, 2017, 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell Blvd., Gresham, OR. A Celebration of Life and Joye will be on August 2, 2017, 10:00 at Open Door Baptist Church, 27710 SE Strebin Road, Troutdale, OR. Internment will follow at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 400 SW Walters Dr., Gresham, OR.
