Mary Beth Overson, beloved daughter, mother, family member, and friend, passed away on May 31, 2026. She was born on August 6, 1955, in Nephi, Utah. Her passing came on the same day as the loss of her daughter, Jenna Mary Overson, making this sorrow especially profound for all who loved them.
Mary was the youngest of 8 children. She grew up in the Salt Lake Valley and moved to Oregon in 1989. She will be remembered by her funny personality. No one could tell a joke like Mary. She was very splashy and made us all laugh. Mary loved Shirley Temple movies. She would snuggle up on the couch with her hair curled just like Shirley and watch her movies. She never missed a John Wayne movie and would tease that she was in love with Dean Martin. She also always talked about her “Chuckie Baby,” (Chuck Norris). Her son Matt’s favorite memory of her was when they lived in Delta, Utah and spent time at the Delta Reservoir and camped at Fish Lake. She loved the outdoors.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Warren Overson; her daughter, Jenna Mary Overson; her brothers, Merrill Andrews and Brent Overson; her sisters-in-law, Yvonne Andrews, Pat Andrews, and Claudia Andrews; and her brother-in-law, Dick Garber. She is survived by her son, Mathew Overson (Erika); her grandsons, Warren, Kaleb, and Erick Overson; Jorden and Brenten Schubert; Jaxxen Smith; Rylen Champoux; and Jensen Moore; her sisters, Linda Garber and Chris Zaloznik; and her brothers, Jim Andrews, John Andrews, and Kent Overson. She is also, survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and a very close friend Shelley Orn.
The loss of both mother and daughter on the same day is a heartbreak beyond words, and they will be remembered together with deep love and sorrow.
Mary struggled in life with addictions and mental illness. But in the times when she was clear minded she expressed faith in Jesus Christ and taught her two children to trust Jesus. She really was fun to be around before the mental illness and addictions took over. She loved and adored her grandsons and wrote a book for them.
Though words can never fully express the loss felt by those who loved her, Mary’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her and will be missed. The family’s greatest hope is that she is in Jesus’ arms and completely set free from addictions and mental illness.
