

Maryellen Hancock, 92 of Portland OR, passed away Monday, November 01, 2010. She was born on May 28, 1918 in Bishop, California to John and Edythe (Dougherty) Watkins. She graduated from Lone Pine High School in Lone Pine, California and received her Accounting Degree from Heald’s College in San Jose. She married Frank Lee Hancock on April 13, 1941 in Carmel, California and moved to Oregon in the mid 1940’s and then to Portland in 1960. She and Frank “Pappy” owned and operated Pappy’s restaurant in Portland from 1960 to 1968 and The Patio in Detroit Lake from 1967 to 1978. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Elders In Action, Gateway Elks, was an aide to Senator Hatfield and was a Master Gardner. She also loved cooking, was an exceptional artist and musician, traveled the world on cruises and was an avid Mariners Fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank in 1987. Survivors include sons Ken Hancock of Gresham OR and Michael Hancock of Spotsylvania VA; daughters Barbara Knudsen of Tualatin OR and Kathlynn Polkowski of Portland OR; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 3:00pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd in Gresham, Oregon. Interment will be held on Friday, November 5, 2010 at 10:00am at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
