A memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 15, 2022, at 10:00 A.M., at the Dignity Memorial Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W Powell, Gresham, Oregon, 97030 - Followed by Honor Guard at 2:00 P.M., at the Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt Scott Blvd, Happy Valley, OR 97086.
Mervin was born, December 17, 1937, in Portland, Oregon, to Ervin & Florence Douglass. He is survived by his sister Marylou Allison 87, of Sherwood Oregon. In 1962, he met his wife, Lily Douglass, they shared 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2010. They shared a daughter together, Sherria Fitzpatrick, of Gresham, Oregon; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; he also raised 3 other children, James Johnson of Pennsylvania, Debbie Stadtfeld of Pennsylvania, and Merv Douglass of Portland, Oregon; who added 6 step grandchildren, 25 great step grandchildren, and 11 great great step grandchildren.
Looking back, his years spent playing sports in high school, tending his potato farm, being involved with FFA, and the years in the Coast Guard, made him tougher than anything life could throw at him. Mervin could accomplish anything he set his mind to do. He grew up in Sherwood Oregon, attended Sherwood High School where he was involved in FFA & Wrestling, before attending Benson high school, where he participated in cooking class and wrestling. After High School graduation, Merv enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, as an active seaman 4 years, and 2 years reserve. Once he left the military, he worked in the dairy field making AAA sweet cream butter until his early retirement.
Merv spent the remainder of his years with their 2 family dogs, Boomer and King, and many family members and friends doing the things he loved to do. Merv was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing, hunting, bowling, and walking the beaches on the Oregon coast looking for things that may have washed ashore.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the FFA organization or ODFW.
