Muriel Ellen Leichner, 98, passed away in her home on March 8, 2018. She was born on June 6, 1919 in Oregon City, to her parents: Joseph Mathias and Clara Pearl (Mitchell) Justin. She graduated from Tillamook High School in 1936.
Muriel worked for the United States Geological Survey for 8 years, and she greatly enjoyed her work. After she married, she took time off to raise her five children. When they were old enough, she went to work for the Bonneville Power Administration as an Accounting Technician. She worked there for 16 years until she retired at the age of 63.
Muriel attended the First Presbyterian Church of Portland, where she had married her husband Conrad in 1947. Their marriage was the first officiated by the new church minister, Dr. Paul S. Wright.
Muriel loved to travel. She had the opportunity to visit numerous countries over her lifetime, and at the age of 84, she rode a camel in Egypt, and a couple of years later, she rode an elephant in Thailand! The last trip she took was to the British Isles at age 88. She was an adventurer, and her family will always remember the special trips that they took with her.
Muriel was a kind, peaceful woman with a good nature. She loved animals, and always took in strays. Her children recognize her as an excellent mother. She was a devout Christian, who loved the Lord and lived to serve.
Muriel is survived by her five children, Melissa, Rebecca, Rachel, Stephanie and Kevin; as well as 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; as well as her cousin, Joyce.
Muriel will be laid to rest with her husband Conrad at Rose City Cemetery in Portland.
