It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy, a beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She peacefully left this world at the age of 78.
Nancy's life was a canvas painted with unending curiosity and a hunger for knowledge. With every book she read, and every conversation she engaged in, her yearning for insight was evident. Additionally, her ongoing spiritual quest demonstrated a desire to gain peace and understanding beyond the material world.
A committed vegetarian, Nancy lived a life rooted in her values of consideration and respect for all living beings. A devoted bird keeper, she created a haven for her feathered friends, building several aviaries in her home that bridged the gap between humanity and the natural world she so appreciated.
Her dedication to the nursing profession spanned more than four decades, during which she touched the lives of countless patients and their families. With a gentle touch and a heart full of kindness, she provided comfort to those in need.
A genuine enthusiast of the arts, Nancy held special fondness for the theater. She particularly enjoyed attending the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon as often as possible.
Nancy was also an avid runner, completing over 19 marathons and multiple Hood to Coast relays. Her passion for marathon running was a reflection of her unwavering commitment to pushing her own physical and mental boundaries.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Dennis Schantzen, sons, Jim Leeper and Mike Leeper, and grandchildren Makayla, Hayden, Zachary, Jaime, Taimani, Kiana, and Mia.
A private memorial service was held on August 21, 2023 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to "in Defense of Animals" or the "Lower Nehalem Community Trust" reflecting Nancy's dedication to making the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.
As we bid farewell to Nancy, let us treasure the memory of her tender heart and curious soul. May her journey be peaceful and may the imprint she left on those around her keep her legacy alive.
